At Tokata Learning Center, the name comes from the Dakota word Tokata—Future. It reflects the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to envision, pursue and create a future filled with purpose, possibility and success.
For some students, the traditional path hasn't been the right fit. At Tokata (TLC), we help students reconnect with their strengths and see new possibilities for their future. The TLC team looks beyond those challenges and focuses on strengths, potential and opportunity.
More than a school, TLC is a community where students and families join in partnership to find belonging, purpose and hope—and where every day is an opportunity to move one step closer to the future each and every student deserves. TLC graduates leave with a deeper understanding of their strengths, greater confidence in their abilities and a belief that they can create a future that is meaningful to them.
TLC's mission is to facilitate high-quality learning within a school community where…stories matter, vulnerability is invited, barriers are challenged, strengths are discovered and students are celebrated.
Located in the Town Square Mall next to the District Office and Welcome Center, the TLC team recognizes that the journey to a high school diploma for many students is not a straight path.
Through meaningful relationships, personalized learning, project-based experiences, the TLC team helps students reconnect with learning, build confidence and discover a path forward. Every student is known, supported, challenged and celebrated as they develop the skills, character and agency to shape their future.
